1. Call to Order
The Chair Andrew Niven, called the meeting to order at 3 p.m.

2. Announcements
Holly Dowd spoke about report CS-19-017 - Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Business Process and Operations - Improvement Plan.

3. Presentations
There were no presentations at this time.

4. Adoption of Agenda
Moved by Councillor Clare Cameron that the agenda be adopted.
APPROVED.

5. Conflict of Interest
No conflicts of interest were declared at this time.

6. Previous Minutes
The Committee reviewed the minutes of April 4, 2019.

7. Correspondence
The Committee reviewed the following items of correspondence;
7.1 CS-13-002 - Town Branding Initiative
7.2 Corporate Identity Guide
7.3 The Importance of Focusing on Community When Building Smart Cities Article
7.4 Introducing the Needotron

8. Business

8.1 Discuss pros and cons of other municipalities' websites
The Committee reviewed many different websites from other municipalities and discussed the pros and cons of the various design elements.

Moved by Councillor Clare Cameron that when a Request for Proposal is drafted for a new Town website, the following design elements be considered;

  • Focus on local issues
  • Reduce click-through rates
  • Be data-driven, based on data analytics for visitor traffic
  • Prioritize popular pages
  • Use local images instead of generic stock photos
  • Avoid distractions, clutter, and use lots of negative space
  • Include a search box
  • Use active language (instead of passive)
  • Use positive language (i.e. "concern" instead of "complaint)
  • Focus on being an information-based website
  • Be accessible and AODA compliant
  • Be mobile friendly and response for all devices
  • Use a design hierarchy
  • Obtain feedback from Town staff about what webpages staff use the most
  • Don't try to be a tourist website (redirect visitors to the Chamber's website and request they do the same)
